This project involved the structural design of a cutting-edge, two-story residence situated in the Hamptons. This opulent dwelling boasts an expansive living area spanning 18,200 square feet and is adorned with retractable glass partitions, guest accommodations, an entertainment lounge, a fitness area, an elevator, and a six-vehicle garage. To maximize outdoor enjoyment, the property features multiple terraces and patios arranged on various levels. The centerpiece is a raised area covering 3,142 square feet, designed to accommodate a heated infinity pool. Additionally, a 900-square-foot rooftop deck offers breathtaking vistas of the neighboring Mecox Bay, Channel Pond, and the Atlantic Ocean.

Coastal Foundation Solutions

Constructing in coastal regions presents distinctive hurdles. In order to meet FEMA flood zone standards, buildings frequently necessitate elevation beyond the usual levels to safeguard against flooding and the impact of waves. This is especially crucial in locations where storm surges can pose substantial threats to the structural stability of the edifice. To withstand the expected wave force and erosion, the house’s foundation system is comprised of substantial 25-ton wooden pilings, along with pile caps and grade beams. Additionally, the house’s distinctive design is further highlighted by the upper floors extending beyond a concrete base, creating the illusion that the residence hovers above the terrain.

Exceeding Minimum Design Standards

DRPILLA’s extensive expertise in materials and structural integration enabled us to assess and create a system that harmonized the design vision for both its visual appeal and functionality. The lateral system is constructed from steel moment frames seamlessly combined with engineered lumber, designed to achieve an exceptionally high level of precision and performance. This ensures defense against excessive movements that might otherwise cause potential harm to delicate finishes such as plaster, glass tile, and the curtain wall system.

Mastering Form + Function

Completed in 2019, this project seamlessly integrates architectural creativity with innovative engineering to deliver an unparalleled, distinctive residence inspired by the demanding characteristics of its site.
