As an engineer and architect, in both private practice and academia, Mr. Pilla is steeply engaged in the interface of engineering and architecture. DRPILLA, the 30 person firm Mr. Pilla founded in 1999 offers structural and civil consulting engineering services as well as supportive architectural planning and design to public and private organizations predominately in New York City and its surroundings. The firm’s breadth of work spans the full spectrum of building types and sectors. The firm specializes in comprehensive evaluation of existing buildings and developing alterations and modifications, which augment and incorporate the building’s viable functionality for re-use.
In academia, Mr. Pilla is a lecturer in the School of Architecture and the School of Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where the bridging of both disciplines (Engineering and Architecture) is essential to convey ideas involving materials and structural systems applicable to design development.
Both professionally and pedagogically, Mr. Pilla continues to synthesize engineering and architectural technologies for the advancement of the built environment.
