An existing (11) eleven story steel frame building on caisson foundations was modified to accommodate the addition of a new gymnasium at the roof top of the eleventh floor. The gymnasium is an enclosed space with an exterior roof top level soccer field with perimeter and roof fencing. The new structure is steel and concrete with light weight cold formed metal cladding. A new indoor swimming pool was located at the basement level of the building. The existing building columns remained uninterrupted and pass through the pool proper. The columns are protected from the surrounding pool water. The pool structure is reinforced concrete supported on conventional pier/columns and spread footings as were required. An additional full height (14 floors) exterior egress stair was located on the east face of the building. The housing of the stair is steel construction also with light weight cold formed metal cladding.
