This project is a proposed design for an industrial-use building located on a site within the Brooklyn Navy Yards. The program included an 80,000-sf, three-story multi-tenanted building. Because the site was not conducive to spread footings, DRPilla proposed a deep-foundation system to support the building. The design also had to accommodate an existing electrical conduit which divides the site. Located in a floodplain, the design also required the building to be elevated. With LEED® Silver certification as its goal, DRPilla designed a pre-cast concrete solution with green roofs and photovoltaic roof panels to qualify for NYSERDA electrical usage rebates.
