As an engineer and architect, in both private practice and academia, Mr. Pilla is actively engaged in the interface of engineering and architecture. He approaches the design process from an integrated approach; fusing form and function to interlace multiple disciplines that extend through all phases of design and construction to satisfy the aesthetic and functional objectives of the “whole” building.

Both professionally and academically, Mr. Pilla continues to synthesize engineering and architectural technologies for the advancement of the built environment. As the founder and principal of DRPILLA, Mr. Pilla leads the strategic direction and oversight of the firm while also being highly engaged with clients, projects and staff development. He has more than 30 years of experience specializing in the structural analysis, design and review of nearly every building type, including commercial and residential buildings, hotels and sports facilities. One of his key strengths is combining the most current technologies with traditional pragmatic engineering. In academia, Mr. Pilla is a lecturer in the School of Architecture and the School of Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where the bridging of both disciplines (Engineering and Architecture) is essential to convey ideas involving materials and structural systems applicable to design development. In this role, he appreciates the opportunity that allows him to challenge issues beyond the norm of commercial practice.

Dominick lives in Nyack with his wife and two young children. He enjoys spending time with his family, skiing and playing golf.
